Bonus Spanish Lesson

Sueños – all about being tired, going to bed, dreams etc.

I’ve actually been working on ideas for an audio newsletter for a long time. I’ve researched and written a lot material. In fact, I’ve even recorded several unreleased sessions.

The sessions were created before I developed the final format for my Spanish Ear Training program.

In Spanish Ear Training, I have two main focuses.

1. To build your ear to keep up with the speed of Spanish.

2. To expand your understanding of how your Spanish speaking friends use their language.

Even though I have a lot of similar lessons in Spanish Ear Training, these lessons didn’t fit into the final themes in that program.

Yet, they are still really helpful lessons. So I decided the best thing to do with them is to share them with you.

I hope you enjoy them, let me know by leaving a comment here on the blog.

Let’s get started, in this lesson you’ll learn many ways to talk about sleeping, being tired, and going to bed..

Hola Marcus. Even if your bonus lessons don’t relate directly to the themes of your lessons I find them a fantastic help in a more general sense. For me, anything that you find important enough to create lessons for is definitely worth us learning. Thank you very much.

Yes these lessons are very helpfull as they help to think in Spanish. The difference in saying “I’m tired” is much more litteral in Spanish than in English, for example. I have taught myself with ads like these and I am trying to help my wife in learning basics. These are the questions she always ask and I’m not always able to answer. Muchisimos gracias

Thanks Marcus,

These lessons were very useful as they drilled everyday topics. We all go to bed, sleep, dream, wake up, and sometimes even feel tired after sleeping. We need to practice these also.

Appreciate it!

Hi Marcus
I want to thank you for the ear training lessons. I always find your lessons very understandable and your method “sticks” in my brain. When most of the spanish I study gets forgotten your lessons are right there ready to be used at a moments notice.
You are really on to something!

Great lessons. As a Puerto Rican, who did not want to learn Spanish as a youngster, this is great way for me to get my vocabulary skills up to where they should be. And even though the pronunciations are not always akin to the PR way of speaking Spanish it is good to hear what things should really sound like to most of the rest of the Spanish speaking public. Thanks. Keep them coming even if they do not fit with the rest of your program.

These lessons have already boosted my confidence in speaking Spanish. I have always had a high listening and reading vocabulary, but never the confidence to string words together effortlessly, without thinking too much about it. I, too, was beginning to lose heart that I would ever be able to speak Spanish. I feel I have my own private tutor (to quote a current commercial) right here in my home, one that is patient and doesn’t correct my mispronounciations but with the repetitions, they are slowly diminishing.
Thank you.

I found those lessons helpful and structured. I like your system of repetition within the sentence structure. I like to learn grammar – but it isn’t always helpful when trying to converse!

Your most recent Sueños lessons are wonderful also. In particular your lessons have helped me to speak conversational Spanish, they are easy to follow and somehow remain in my memory very easily. Thank you so much for everything, GRACIAS! Carmela, Australia.

Your lessons are always a great help – more so when you include transcripts because way out here in the Spanish countryside our internet connection is VERY slow & voice doesn’t sound good, also I notice your pronounciation is based on Mexican Spanish whereas here in Spain itself the accent is a little different (the combination ‘ce’ & ‘ci’ for example is a strong ‘th’ sound here.) so yes, please keep up the good work and especially the transcripts.

About The Free Bonus Lessons
Hola Marcus Santamaria,
I am living in Denmark, a little country, my native language is Danish. I am 72 years old, retired teacher. For some years ago, I attended 3 short evening-courses in Spanish, and now I am trying to learn more, but I live far from bigger cities so I have to learn Spanish via pc, on-line Spanish newspapers, online TV etc. In the future I hope to be able to read Spanish literature, learn about Spanish culture in Spain, but also in CA, Mexico, Latinamerica etc.
As a teacher I know how important it is to learn from different angles, and I am impressed by the way you are guiding through the lessons, mnemonics, comparing Spanish with English, creating Spanish from English, all ”the relics” from Latin we have in many European languages. Many call Spanish the modern Latin.
The lessons you recently sent were really good, especially the way you explain the reflexive werbs. In Danish we often use two words, too.
I should like to have more free lessons.
I appreciate that you do so great a work!
Saludos

Hi Marcus, and hola to all you happy Spanish-students out there. I’m happy too! I have been following Spanish lessons for 2 years in DK, and it was great, but I can feel that I’m now improving my way of speaking a lot after getting Bola de Nieve and all other material. Just need somebody to speak to; only have that during the summer. I specially love the Mexican way of speaking Spanish. I have always been interested in different dialects and nuances. Wish I had the same possibility to study Greek, which is my top-priority language right now.
Saludos, Hans.

So many people will benefit from your work Marcus. I intend to follow all of your teachings because they take the dull factor away from learning. They focus on getting immersed in the language. If I was taught this way at school, I would have probably got better grades. I have learnt more about stringing words together with you than I did in 5 years at school. The main thing I remember from school is the vocabulary and that’s about it. I prabably switched off with the rest because it was too confusing with all of the conjugating of verbs and different tenses.
Thankyou for helping me to see a better way of learning.
I bought a real Spanish recipe book from Spain when I was on holiday and I’ve been using it to practice my spanish. It’s great because it’s full of verbs. I also bought a novel called trece runas. It will probably take me years to read it, but I believe now that I can and the more I read, the less I will need to look up words because they will start to stick. I figured that if I’m enjoying the story whilst I’m learning, I’ll remember better. I’ve been doing the same with music too. Printing off the lyrics and translating them myself. Each time I sing the song, I remember a bit more.
You have helped give me the enthusiasm to do all of this, so I want to say muchas gracias. Me encanta aprender con usted.
x

The hardest part for me is feeling confident enough to dive in, and your courses give me that confidence.

¡Salud!

Thank you so much for another set of wonderful lessons. Your teaching method has given me the courage to talk to people and improve my Spanish – as I now live in Honduras thats kind of necessary!!! I wish you could put the same method for teaching English – so many people want me to help them learn English, but so far I did not find any really good sources.

Marcus,

Thanks for making these lessons available. They are really practical and useful. It is clear that you are on to something with these and the other courses that you write.

I definately would be interested in any more lessons that you would make available. I just upgraded my mp3 player to make room for more of your courses!

Hi Marcus – it’s taken me a while to get round to trying the booster lessons -we have a new puppy in the familY! I am a great fan of whatever you put out because I believe the only way to learn a new language is to practice a little bit everyday. The more material available for me to do that the better. You have more to offer? Bring it on! And thanks

Sylvia HebronNo Gravatar on November 25th, 2008 at 6:14 pm #

Muchas gracias, Marcus. I found this lesson on sleep very helpful. I enjoy this method of studying Spanish very much! I appreciate the slower speed so that I can really hear the sound of the words–the faster speed being one of my complaints with other courses.

Hola Marcus,I’m 60 years old and I’ve wanted to speak and understand spanish since high school. My greatgrandmother was from mexico and my grandfather tried teaching me spanish when I was very young but I found what to me was more important things to do, Play with my friends. I took 2 years of spanish in high school to no avail and just gave up. For years I’ve been searching for a course that would help me become fluent in spanish. I started synergy spanish 2 months ago and it really put the hooks into me. I’m constantly studying and learning how to converse in spanish. I just cant’t get enough. My vocabulary and understanding of the language is just growing faster than what I expected. My goal is to be fluent by the time I go to my grandaughters highschool graduation next summer in California. Thankyou for the coaching and please keep it coming. I know I still have a long way to go but I’m confident that I will master this program. Gracias Profesor!

Keep up the good work and I have and will continue to recommended your Spanish Courses to many of my colleagues…
